love-indian-actress:

This was a completely random attack of an Indian girl to another girl (a friend of mine) cause she was so short of arguments, criticize the physical appearance of someone is the worst thing ever.

Shadeism is real !

First of all, wtf is “Dusky”??? lmao I’m pretty sure that isn’t even a word.

Also, WOW I swear Desi society and it’s inhabitants are the worst when it comes to Shadism. It stems from Colonialism and the caste system, and it’s still prevalent today, with Bollywood focusing on light skin actresses and actors with European features to further assimilate Desi society to western standards. It’s atrocious, how much people pick up on these notions, because when it is time for “marriage” in Desi society, and people send out their bio-datas 95% of the time a woman’s skin shade is the first thing brought into consideration. Not her education, spirituality, ethics etc, but her skin shade? Why else do you think shade-ist brands like “Fair & Lovely” are so damn prosperous in Desi society? Because the entire society is encouraged to have euro-centric ideals of beauty. You can’t have BROWN skin that’s too “Tan” or a nose that too wide, if you wear traditional Desi clothing such as salwar kameez or saris or a bindi too big you’re considered too pious, outdated and un-appealing, because apparently assimilation is all that matters? Have some personality, some gratefulness for your heritage people! Don’t just get mad when non-desi people appropriate your culture, heritage and lineage you’re ignoring it yourselves, you’ve shamed yourselves into thinking the world isn’t worthy of knowing your own natural beauty and aesthetics.
